A debut summit will gather some of the most influential entrepreneurs and business leaders transforming how we access and use energy.
WIRED Energy, a curated one-day event produced with headline partner Centrica, will be held at London’s King’s Place on October 12, and play host to pioneering startups and thought-leaders from across the world of energy.
Shining a light on the transformation of energy supply, distribution and application, WIRED Energy will share critical discussions about the global energy challenge. It’s also seeking to highlight the ways in which energy innovation is changing the world, the way we live and the way we work. As such attendees can expect a unique networking opportunity, plus expert insights throughout the day.
With the event announcement comes the first six of the day’s dozen speakers. Specialising in areas such as home connectivity, tidal power and peer-to-peer access, WIRED Energy will offer a cross-section of innovative industry approaches sure to engage thinkers, academics, practitioners, entrepreneurs, investors and policy-makers alike. The first six speakers are:
Nina Bhatia, managing director of Centrica Connected Home and also responsible for the Hive brand of smart-home products. Also helping to drive innovation in the home is Marjan van Aubel. As the designer and founder of Caventou, Aubel has been integral to the creation of Caventou’s solar cell-endowed Current Table and Current Window.
Beyond the smart home, Lawrence Orsini is the CEO and founder of LO3 Energy – the technology energy company behind New York’s peer-to-peer Brooklyn microgrid. The Brooklyn Microgrid is a community network generating and distributing energy using blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is a topic Electron CEO and co-founder Joanna Hubbard is also an authority on. Electron is developing an energy platform using a distributed ledger; the goal is a more efficient, resilient and open way to use energy.
The final two of the first six speakers announced are Inna Braverman and Hugo Spowers. Braverman is co-founder of tidal energy-focused startup Eco Wave Energy. Eco Wave Energy wants to use the ocean’s power efficiently, with minimal environmental impact. That’s an approach Spowers can also appreciate as the founder of Rivesimple Movement. A UK-based hydrogen car company, Riversimple is currently testing its first vehicle: the ‘Rasa’.
More speakers are yet to be announced, but WIRED Energy is already shaping up to be a truly engaging summit and exciting networking opportunity. Editor of WIRED, Greg Williams, illustrates this perfectly, commenting:
“We’re thrilled to add WIRED Energy to the WIRED events programme. With a growing global population requiring ever greater amounts of reliable, secure and sustainable sources of power, WIRED Energy will gather the sharpest international minds and practitioners from sectors as diverse as artificial intelligence, battery technology, mobility, the connected home and renewables – all to explore transformational ideas and technologies, which could have a deep impact on how we live in the coming years.”
WIRED Energy will take place at King’s Place, London, N1 on October 12.
