Everything Leaving Netflix in August – Internet

We all know that Justice League, which will feature all the big DC Comics super-heroes in live action, arrives in theaters in November.

But it’s not the first (and probably not even the best) version of Justice League outside the comics; and I’m not talking Super Friends. Back in 2001, Warner Bros. Animation brought the JL to TV as a follow-up to the amazing Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Justice League Unlimited showcased a seemingly unlimited number of heroes and villains (because the DC Comics bench is deep).

This is a long-winded way of whining that every season of Justice League is leaving Netflix next month. It’s probably because of the impending release of the Justice League movie. That way, Warner Bros. can do a big, simultaneous Blu-ray push. Try not to be annoyed.

Sadly, that’s not the only League-related programming getting nixed by the ‘Flix this coming month.

If you or your kids grew up in the 1990s and the 2000s, this is the League of their own. The recurring heroes are all familiar (Flash, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, plus the trinity), the bad guys are legendary (Luthor, Grodd, Darkseid, Amazo), the action is non-stop, and it’s all family-friendly and utterly enjoyable. There is no way the film can even come close.

In the comics, the first time all the teen sidekicks got together they called themselves Teen Titans. Then they grew up and new children were put in harm’s way to save humanity! Those kids called themselves Young Justice. Cartoon Network gave Young Justice a show for a couple of years, but revamped them more into a spy team—albeit using the characters that were already grown up in the comics. If you read DC Comics, you learn to give up on continuity early on. Anyway, this is a beloved and Emmy-winning show cancelled too early, but a new season called Young Justice: Outsiders is on the way for 2018.

No one would every accuse any of the characters on this FX/FXX show as being heroic. If you don’t know it, it’s a semi-improved series about friends who are all in a fantasy football league and use that as an excuse to be horrible to each other. And from that very horribleness springs frequently hilarious moments thanks to talents like Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer and especially the recurring Jason Mantzoukas (see below, in a video that is 100 percent NSFW—and that’s the cleanest one I could find). Yeah, it’s not really about football. At all. You’ve got all month to catch the 84 episodes that exist, all the way to the end.
