For those of you reading this who are seasoned users of the app you may already know the answer to this question, or you may have never even thought of it.
Snapchat was launched in 2011 as an instant photo messaging and video messaging app, you could send a 10 second video or a picture that could last for up to 10 seconds before it would ‘self-destruct’ and delete itself from your recipient’s device.
A simple premise that was built upon by each Snapchat update.
Then we were blessed by the Snapchat Gods and they gave us Stories, which were generalised snaps that you could post without actually sending it directly to any of your friends. It would just be present there on the app for all your Snapchat friends to see.
Other updates brought the app out of obscurity and onto the main social media stage as they introduced Discover, which is a news based section of the app, Memories, Snapchat messaging, and Snap Map.
Over seven billion pictures and videos are sent and viewed each day on Snapchat, but as someone who uses the app non-stop I was surprised to ask the question: ‘How long do Snapchat stories last?’
Well, Snapchat stories last 24 hours in the sense that once you post the snap to your story, it will remain there for 24 hours only.
After that, they will disappear from your Snapchat feed forever unless you have saved your story, then it will only remain on your device storage or on the Snapchat storage section memories.
The question that I had really never thought about was how long can a Snapchat story go on for?
In reality there is no set answer, you can constantly be updating your story if you like, it probably won’t be that exciting, but it will be very long.
In the past Snapchat stores had a timer on the top right hand corner with the amount of seconds left in the story inset in the timer.
In further updates of the app they removed the exact second timer and left only a circle timer.
Once when we saw friends who had over 100 second story we rolled our eyes, now we are probably watching over 100 second stories and barely noticing.
There are a lot of varying factors, it depends on how long you set to display your photos, and how long the videos you post are.
If you put up one 10 second video/picture each hour of the day then you would have a 240 second (four minute) long story.
There are reports of a 10,000 second story online, which is nearly 3 hours long, and would definitely be a contender for the longest ever Snapchat story.
You could try it out yourself but disclosure: your friends won’t like you for it.
In theory, if there is no limit to your story possibilities then you could have a story that lasted 86,400 seconds -24 hours long.
But ain’t no body got time for that…
