Apple expected to unveil iPhone 8 on September 12

The next generation of iPhones is set to be revealed next month.

Apple has sent out invitations to a select few asking them to attend a showcase on Thursday September 12.

As usual, the secretive company didn’t say exactly what will be launched, but this is typically when Apple unveils new iPhones.

Much of the anticipation is swirling around whether Apple will show off a dramatically different type of iPhone with a sleeker and even bigger screen to celebrate the device’s 10th anniversary.

According to reports, Apple will use the event to unveil up to three new iPhone handsets – an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, as well as a special edition iPhone 8.

The special edition iPhone 8 – which could also be named iPhone X, according to reports – has been rumoured to feature an edge-to-edge screen similar to that on the Samsung Galaxy S8, which removes the Home button.

The device may also support wireless charging for the first time on an iPhone.

A third generation of the Apple Watch and a 4K-supporting Apple TV are also rumoured to be among the upcoming announcements.

The show will be the first time Apple hosts an event on the new Cupertino campus in California, which began welcoming employees in April.

The circular main building has been dubbed ‘the spaceship’, with its design heavily influenced by Apple’s design boss, Sir Jony Ive.
